Indonesia is looking to solve its traffic problems by bringing the air taxis. On August 12, 2026, Indonesian aviation company Whitesky Aviation signed an agreement to bring 60 electric air taxis to the country. The officials are partnering with AutoFlight, a Chinese developer, to use their two-tonne V2000EM Prosperity aircraft. This move marks one of the largest commitments to electric air mobility in Southeast Asia this year.
The aircraft itself can carry up to four passengers and has a flying range of about 250 kilometers. Because Whitesky Aviation already runs a helicopter service in Jakarta, they already have the experience to manage local operations, build landing hubs, and handle flight crews.
Moving from loud, gas-heavy helicopters to quiet, zero-emission electric air taxis is the logical next step for bypassing Jakarta’s heavy gridlock, starting with premium VIP flights before rolling out to broader public transport.
While this agreement is currently a statement of intent rather than a finalized purchase, it shows a clear trend in futuristic urban travel. Before these flying taxis officially take off with paying passengers, the aircraft still needs to pass safety certifications.
However, with over 17,000 islands and heavily congested cities, Indonesia provides the perfect testing ground for electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles.
