Tata Elxsi, a major Indian engineering and design company, has partnered with a startup named Sarla Aviation to build a new flying taxi in India. The flying vehicle project is called Shunya. Under this agreement, Sarla Aviation will design the aircraft, while Tata Elxsi will work on its electronics, control systems, and computer software.
The flying taxi is designed to carry six passengers along with one pilot. It combines the ability to take off straight up into the air like a helicopter with the speed of an airplane once it is flying forward. This unique design allows it to operate without needing long airport runways, and it can travel distances over 300 kilometers.
Tata Elxsi will also help test the vehicle to make sure it is safe, durable, and meets official flight safety rules. Sarla Aviation will focus on getting the final approval from aviation authorities so the aircraft can eventually carry regular passengers.
This partnership aims to create a fast and modern way to travel across India without getting stuck in ground traffic. By combining tech software and aircraft design, both companies hope to make flying taxis a practical option for long-distance travel in the future.
